About Us

The Charles I Cheneweth Foundation for Persons with Developmental Disabilities was established in 1998 to create new opportunties and enrich the lives of individuals within our community with developmental disabilties. The Community Access Program is one of the public faces of the Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.

Achieving personal goals and accessing recreational opportunties are often beyond the reach of taxpayer-supported programs. But a compassionate heart and a willingness to invest directly into the lives of our neighbors and friends can change this.

Each week, people with developmental disabilties, along with staff and volunteers from the Community Access Program, head to the ball park, the zoo, the beach, or dinner and movie. Door-to-door transportation and one on one assistance are provided, if needed, at no cost. This is only possible through the generous support of individuals and organizations within San Diego with a passion for caring.

1937 - 1996

Throughout his life, Charles Cheneweth worked to expand the safety net to include basic quality of life.

The Charles I Cheneweth Foundation was established in his memory to carry on this effort and to bring together people from all over San Diego with the same passion.
